Jessica's Story

Jessica and Tom, her boyfriend of 7 years, had been talking about a trip to some tropical island after they each finished med school. They were both so involved with their studies and internships that marriage had never entered into the conversation. They just were what they were, an unmarried couple. Jessie was feeling really burned out and in need of a vacation, but Tom just kept saying later, always later. They argued so often about it that Jessie finally said, "Fine, I will go without you."

Jessie soon found herself strolling along on a beautiful white beach in Fiji, picking up lovely seashells as she walked. Not paying attention where she was going, she was surprised to come upon a young Fijian man who was busy making a fishing net.

She was fascinated by the way his thin hands threaded large pieces of cork onto a finely woven fiber net. With merely a nod, he beckoned her over and as she approached him, she realized she was blushing.

There was something so enticing and exciting about this gorgeous man before her. He bade her to sit next to him. He then took her hands in his and guided her as she threaded the cork onto the net. His touch was electrifying.

Their eyes met and she could feel a current of emotion that tugged at her very soul. She felt like she was melting into the deep dark pools of his eyes. Before she realized what was happening, he arose and headed for a thatch roofed hut that stood on stilts over the water. Jessica willingly got up and followed.

As she entered she noted in the center of the room a large bed, draped in gossamer netting that was beneath a lazily turning fan of molded palm leaves. He sank down onto the bed and she lay down next to him. She could feel the warmth of his beautiful, tanned body next to hers as she listened to the waves gently rolling in and out. Over and over the sound of the ocean whoosh in, whoosh out. She felt so alive, so mesmerized.

Opening her eyes, she suddenly realized that the sound she was hearing was not the ocean at all but the steady sleepy breath of Tom curled next to her on the bed. It had all been a dream.

Note: No, guilt necessary. Sometimes dreams can take you on a romantic or sexual fantasy involving someone other than your committed partner. This does not necessarily mean you are going to be unfaithful. It could just mean that you really need a change in your life and/or a new connection with your mate. Remember, you get what you give. It takes two to keep a relationship alive. Be the change you wish to see in your life.
