Robin

Robin drove her CRV to a parking area near a gated path and walked up the hill to a small rise overlooking an azure ocean and a beautiful, sandy beach. There at the top of the crest was a memorial marker with the beautifully engraved faces of her mother, father and brother, all deceased. It was an especially wonderful tribute for her mother, a landscape artist who had loved painting the ocean.

Robin noted that there was a forth face in the picture but she couldn’t make out who it was. Just then she heard the sound of a vehicle slowly driving up the path toward her. She turned and saw it was her mother, old and frail, who heard about the memorial and wanted to see it. It seemed perfectly natural that her mother was both here and gone at the same time.

They stood together in what felt like a sacred spot, sharing this moment of solitude. Robin could see a sparkle in her mother's old eyes and knew that this tribute gave her peace and happiness.

Knowing that she would not be able to back the car back down, Robin carried her Mother down the path and put her in the passenger seat of the CRV.

Feeling a little anxious Robin was faced with a dilemma. She didn’t want to leave her mother alone but knew she had to somehow get both cars out of the park. She thought about just taking the license plate from her mother’s car and coming back for the car later, but there wasn't enough time. It was getting dark and the gates would soon be locked.

She finally reached up as far as she could and was just able to grab the back bumper of her mother’s car, pulled it slowly down the path and carefully folded it up like a large suitcase and put it in the back of the CRV. All folded it didn’t seem that heavy and it solved the problem. She was then able to drive away with her mother and both cars. It was after all a dream.

Note: Dreams often defy logic. Especially when what the dreamer wants is physically impossible. Robin wanted to connect with her deceased mother and was able to do so. The extra car presented a problem so her mind found an illogical solution.

The only unsolved mystery was the “other” face on the marker. Perhaps that is just a reminder that not every mystery is solvable in a given time. Sometimes you just need to accept that “It is what it is” and move on.
